• Ultrasonography

Ultrasonography is no longer just for expectant mothers. Recent advances in technology have made it possible for ultrasound machines to be transportable and affordable for patient use in the office setting. Manhattan Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Group is proud to offer our patients this cutting edge technology to help improve treatment outcomes.

      What is Ultrasound?

      • Ultrasound uses sound waves to visualize soft tissue such as muscles and tendons.
      • Ultrasonography uses a probe containing one or more acoustic transducers to send pulses of sound into the patient. Whenever a sound wave encounters a material with a different density, part of the sound wave is reflected back to the probe and is detected as an echo.

      Safety:

      • No radiation

How we use Ultrasound in the office:

      • Evaluation of acute and chronic tendon and ligament injuries
      • Dynamic assessment of tendon function
      • Evaluation of soft tissue disease
      • Improved accuracy in interventional procedures such as injections, aspirations, or biopsies

      Advantages of Ultrasound:

By performing ultrasound-guided procedures and exams in the office:

      • Physicians can reduce costs.
      • Decrease time to diagnosis and care.
      • Increase accuracy of injections.
      • Minimize use of ionizing radiation in patient evaluation
      • Valuable patient education aid
